Warm Colors for a Cold Winter Day: GBBD, January 2022
Mid-January is often the coldest part of winter in Maine, and that seems to be true this year, with overnight temperatures well below zero (F) and daytime highs in the single digits. These are good days to hunker down indoors, enjoying the cozy heat of a wood fire and the warm colors of Cyclamen persica flowers on my plant window.
Happily, our coldest days tend to be sunny days, and the cyclamen flowers take on extra warmth as they glow in the rays of a winter sun.

My potted cyclamen will continue to bloom throughout the winter. At some point, they will be joined by the shorter-lived but spectacular flowers of potted amaryllis bulbs.
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day is hosted each month by Carol Michel at May Dreams Gardens. Visit her website to see the array flowers being enjoyed by other gardeners this January.
I love your display of houseplants and the Cyclamen is beautiful! Happy Bloom Day!
Lee, Flowering houseplants are definitely an aid to sanity during the long, cold months of winter.
How we treasure those brilliant colours in the middle of winter. Here in New Zealand, it’s the bold strident colours of
summer, Sunflowers, Dahlias, Callas, Petunias, Aster, Scadoxis, Helenium and Echinacea.
Judi, My cyclamen bloom for most of the year, but it is during winter that I most value their vibrant color. In six months, I will be able to enjoy many of the flowers you have in bloom now in my own garden.
The Cyclamen is particularly lovely backlit like that.
Kris, because that window faces southwest, light from the low-angled winter sun pours into the room, backlighting plants and warming my soul.
My colorful.winter flower is a brilliant red amaryllis – but it broke out of the pot and is opening in a vase. It will not be denied blooming.
Pat, My amaryllis bulbs never seem to bloom until late winter. I have two now, both red and white, with buds about 10″ tall.
